Bookkeeping

Accurate and up-to-date financial records play an important part in the success of a business. And yet, bookkeeping is a lost art in America. 

 

Often handled by office managers who may or may not have taken some accounting classes in high school of college, real and correct bookkeeping using GAAP is often not a reality.  The daily tasks required to  properly maintain these records are often not known to the employee or are ignored and fall to the bottom of the employee's list of priorities.  Items are often misclassified, not recorded, or double recorded.  Bank statements are accepted as correct without a proper reconciliation. Those who actually study bookkeeping in college, go on to get degrees in finance or they become CPAs.  They do not want to do "simple bookkeeping" at that point.  Hiring a bookkeeper with real understanding and skills to handle the accounting tasks in-house for the business becomes very difficult and expensive.
